Mental Health is so important
Taking care of your mental health is just as important as taking care of your physical health.
What is counselling and how can it help me?
Counsellng provides a safe and confidential space to discuss issues that you feel may be causing you problems in your life. The process creates a therapeutic bond between the counsellor and the client. The role of the counsellor is to listen with understanding, empathy and have no judgements on what the client presents in sessions.
An integrative therapist such as myself may use various techniques to help the client move through the process in a bid to help them understand what it is they are feeling and find ways to help them explore these feelings. These techniques may include creative methods, metaphorical analogies, or cognitive behavioural techniques. Personally, I like to get to know my clients and find out how they learn and process information and emotions and then tailor the sessions to suit my client.
Sometimes counselling can be a painful process, especially when discussing difficult issues and the emotions they raise. This isn't something to be afraid of, as the process focuses on healing and acceptance. It's difficult to say how long counselling can last or how long it takes to feel the benefits as this depends on the client. It's important that the counsellor move at the client's pace and not rush this process. So, counselling could be only a few sessions or it could be long term.
